Individual Unit Awards

If you are interested in shorter courses but specific to one particular area in hairdressing, then this is the choice for you. The Individual Units can be taken as an NVQ (National Vocational Qualification Certification in City & Guilds) or can be taken alone, just as a learning & training experience. 

LV2 Course Description

This City & Guilds Award teaches the knowledge and skills required to cut men's hair into basic looks.

You will be taught how to recognise and analyse the different hair & scalp conditions, which products to use and recommend and the aftercare advice following the service. You will gain knowledge on identifying cutting angles & techniques and identify the tools & equipment needed to achieve the desired look. On completion of the theory knowledge lesson you will sit an on-line test to confirm knowledge.

During the practical session you will observe demonstrations on a variety of cutting techniques, classic clipper work, scissor over comb and texturising on different types of hair and neck lines.

Assessment:

You will be require to complete practical assessments and theory knowledge including, Health & Saftey Unit, by covering an on-line multiple choice test.

You will also be required to produce your own models both for practice and examinations. 

LV3 Course Description

The Level 3 Award is specifically designed to provide you with the knowledge and skills to cut men's hair into a variety of fashion looks including Facial Shaving techniques.

You'll develop skills in layering, club cutting, scissor over comb, clippers, texturising/thinning, use of a razor, freehand cutting techniques, tapering, graduating, fading & disconnecting.

You'll also cover communication skills, health and safety, contra-indications, care and maintenance of the tools and equipment, knowledge of the relevant legislation, the effect of cutting hair at different angles, consultation and aftercare. 

Assessment: 

You will be required to undergo practical assessments covering graduation, texturizing & disconnection on different male models. Examinations include on-line tests for this unit and also Health & Saftey.

You will also be required to produce your own models for both practical lessons and examinations.

SUITABILITY

LV2: No previous hairdressing experience required.
LV3: Students must posses LV2 Award in Men's cutting.

EQUIPMENT NEEDED

Your own equipment is needed for this course. Tools needed: Mannequin & Clamp, Cutting Scissors, Clippers & Trimmers, Styling Combs & Sectioning clips. Should you choose to purchase your tool kit from our salon, you can do so at special student prices.

DURATION & COST

Deposit: LV2: To book your place you need to apply a deposit (non-refundable) of €200, this covers a portion towards your registration and confirms your attendance. LV3: €250 deposit.

Duration of Course:  Lessons are held twice per week for an average of 2 hours each lesson for the duration of 12 Weeks. One lesson is based on hands-on training and the other is based on salon experience and observation. For LV3 no observation lesson is needed.

Monthly Payments: We allow students to pay for this course on a monthly basis. Cost is of €200 per month for the duration of 3 months. This fee includes all Practical & Theory lessons, Notes & Resources, On-Line videos and Lectures (viewed in the comfort of your home), Products used in salon & City & Guilds Award Certification. For LV3 Award an additional €250 needs to be paid upon certification.
